Section Chief, Pediatric Hospital Medicine

Dartmouth Health Children’s and Geisel School of Medicine

The Department of Pediatrics at Dartmouth Health Children’s and The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth seeks a proven leader to serve as the Section Chief of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. This individual will lead a Section of 11 faculty comprising more than 7 FTE. The successful candidate will have a national reputation in Pediatric Hospital Medicine and a proven track record in clinical program development along with scholarship in research, quality improvement, education, and/or advocacy. Board certification in Pediatrics is required with certification in Pediatric Hospital Medicine highly desirable.

Dartmouth Health Children’s provides an extended system of care with primary, specialty, and advanced tertiary pediatric services, including an inpatient pediatric unit with PICU, level II Pediatric Trauma Center, and level IV NICU at its flagship Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (CHaD) in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Dartmouth Health Children’s also operates a comprehensive ambulatory specialty center at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinic in Manchester, NH, and 10 pediatric primary care medical homes across the region. Dartmouth Health Children’s is committed to addressing racism and other forms of oppression that prevent all children and adolescents from living their healthiest, happiest lives.

The Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine is the primary admitting service to the CHaD Inpatient Unit, providing medical directorship, 24/7/365 in-house coverage, and supervision of pediatric residents. The Section also attends on and provides supervision and medical directorship for the Normal Newborn Nursery. The Section maintains a strong portfolio of health services research, quality improvement and de-implementation sciences, and innovations in the care of newborns exposed to opioids in utero as well as inpatients awaiting definitive psychiatric placement.

Teaching medical students in all settings is expected, so eligibility for appointment to the faculty at The Geisel School of Medicine is required, at a rank commensurate with experience and curriculum vitae. Other academic opportunities across Dartmouth's campuses include world-class traditional biomedical research, renowned leadership in quality improvement and outcomes at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice (TDI), a COBRE for Rural Healthcare Delivery Sciences, global health equity, and educational scholarship.

Dartmouth Health Children’s is the pediatric service of Dartmouth Health, an integrated academic healthcare delivery system for northern New England anchored by Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC). DHMC is recognized by US News & World Report as the Best Hospital in NH and is home to over 50 graduate medical education programs, NHs only Level 1 Trauma Center and air ambulance service, the Dartmouth Cancer Center (a National Cancer Institute designated comprehensive cancer center), TDI, and CHaD.

Faculty at Dartmouth enjoy the unique opportunity to combine high level academic medicine with a serene living environment. Lebanon is part of the Upper Connecticut River Valley, home to Dartmouth College and its abundant cultural and enrichment activities. Outdoor opportunities of all kinds, including hiking, skiing, and exploring abundant lakes and trail systems are right out our back door. With destinations like Boston, New York, Montreal, the seacoast and the White and Green Mountains within short driving distance, this is an ideal place to thrive in work, play, and life.
