Overview

We are currently looking for a PA or NP to join our neurology team. This position will provide inpatient coverage on the epilepsy service as well as outpatient coverage with the general neurology team. 

 

Inpatient Epilepsy Overview

Provides neurologic specialized healthcare to individuals and families suffering from epilepsy in the inpatient setting and are highly involved in ensuring evidenced based care and improved patient outcomes. APP is responsible for comprehensive management of patients on the inpatient epilepsy monitoring unit.  APPS are active in providing education to staff and continued program improvement.

 

Ambulatory Clinic Overview

Provides neurologic specialized healthcare to individuals and families suffering from neurological conditions in the outpatient setting. The APP will provide comprehensive care to patients with neurological conditions in an outpatient setting. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills, a passion for neurology, and a commitment to patient-centered care. Experience preferred, but not required.

 

Under the supervision of the Neurology Chair, Lead APP and Epilepsy Center Medical Director, coordinate services throughout the neurology department to drive the highest quality, efficiency, and community impact of the care we provide.

 

Key Clinical Responsibilities 

  • Assesses physical and psychosocial health status of patient and family by taking health histories and conducting comprehensive physical examinations.
  • Orders appropriate diagnostic/screening tests to evaluate patient’s current health status.
  • Formulates diagnosis and implement treatment plan to manage acute illness and stable chronic illness consulting with and making a referral to physician colleagues and other health care providers as indicated.
  • Consults and collaborates with a department physician or appropriate specialist to plan and manage the care for patients with unstable or complex acute or chronic illness. Facilitates transfer of patient to the primary care physician when the complexity of care exceeds scope of practice.
  • Evaluates patient’s progress during follow up visits and implement revised plan of care.
  • Prescribes and/or dispenses medication.
  • Provides patient education with emphasis on the promotion of health and wellness and the prevention of illness and disability. 
  • Provides guidance and counseling for both individuals and families.
  • Demonstrates patient advocacy that insures the patient’s right to privacy, confidentiality, and informed consent.
  • Serves as a mentor for new APPs and students.
  • Attends continuing education programs to ensure ongoing professional growth and development to meet licensure requirements.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited APRN or PA academic program
  • National specialty certification as FNP or ANP or certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Eligible for RN licensure in the State of NH (APRN only)
  • Eligible for APRN or PA licensure in the State of NH
  • Eligible for Federal DEA Registration
  • BLS certification
